Fort2Base Run
Fort2Base Run Race Description
The 13th annual Fort2Base Race will take place on Sunday August 27, 2023 in North Chicago, Illinois. North Chicago is conveniently located about 45 minutes north of Chicago and 45 minutes south of Milwaukee.
There are two event distances, 10 Nautical Miles and 3 Nautical Miles (11.5 and 3.45 miles respectively). The unique event distances are a nod to Naval Station Great Lakes, home to the only boot camp for the US Navy. The 10 Nautical Mile event begins at Fort Sheridan. Today fort Sheridan is an Army reserve installation, but during World War II over 500,000 men and women were processed there. Athletes continue through Fort Sheridan past George Patton’s home to the McClory Bike Path, past Naval Station Great Lakes and finish at Foss Park.
The 3 Nautical Mile course begins and finishes at Foss Park, while passing by Naval Station Great Lakes.
Fort2Base was founded to honor the men and women who serve and have served our country.
Fort2Base proudly supports Headstrong. Headstrong provides at no expense, confidential and stigma-free mental health treatment for military members, veterans and their families regardless of service era or discharge. Participants are able to support this great cause by making a donation through registration or by running for a reason and raising funds. 100% of the funds raised or donated go directly to Headstrong.

This was my 2nd year running this race and this has to be one of my favorite races! Everything is set up great and everyone is so amazing and helpful! This year, I ran with the 13:00 minute pacers and they were awesome!!! They were great about helping me stay focused and motivated! I don't know if I could have finished the race without their support! Best pacers ever!!! I ran this year in memory of my dad (he passed away in December and he graduated from the Naval Academy at Great Lakes Naval Base), so this was an emotional race for me this year! I'm so happy that I decided to do this race again! I look forward to doing this again in the future!

The medals and race shirts are second to none. The post-race party is also excellent. The bus transports to the race were timely and plentiful.

From the very first email to the dropping off at Rosalind Franklin University fort2base was DEDICATED!!! Each person in the organization gave their best to provide a wonderful event and each participant seemed to DEDICATE themselves to having the best experience possible. It is easy to say everyone DEDICATED their efforts and spirit to our branches of military!!

I love that there was an option to do the race virtually and choose my location, go at my own pace, and upload my results. This was a great way to exercise and support a worthy cause.

Wow thank goodness for some shade cuz the sun mixed with humidity would have killed me:) Awesome volunteers all the way! Great organization...not one hiccup. LOVE the DIY race swag. I missed some post race fun in med tent (awesome paramedics and volunteers there too!!). Just a friendly great race. Not one frown face!

This was a great scenic, well-organized run. The pacers really helped. The food at the end was terrific as well, especially the barbecue sandwiches.

F2B! It was an early rise, but SO worth it! The history behind your race, the stories told, the route with its historical character, the electricity of the runners, this was an A+ event.

This is my 6th year running this race & I am never disappointed. This truly is one of my favorite races. So much fun!

I love this race, bar none my favorite of the season. Love the patriotism!
A fun race and well organized. Course is laid out well. Love the booths to pick-up freebies and be able to buy shirts.
